Door stuck open. No recall....

Got in the truck so i could go to work. Door wouldn't shut. Called local service department and was told my vin isnt included in the recall. I know there is a tsb on the issue and wanted to know how to go about getting it taken care of. I took a couple videos to document it as well.

What`s the year of your vehicle?

Your truck may not be covered by a recall or service bulletin but it's still should be covered by your factory warranty. Not qualifying for a specific recall or TSB don't mean you can't get somethint fixed as long as there is no obvious damage that isn't covered by the factory warranty.

I think I would use a hot air gun or hair drier to see if something is frozen. If that proves to be the case there's usually not much the service department can do.

The poster shortride is correct hence the reason that I asked about the year of your vehicle.

If you haven`t exceeded the 36K factory bumper to bumper warranty, you have nothing to worry about except taking your truck in for repair.

It doesn`t matter if it falls under the recall or not or even if it`s another problem. The dealer will have to repair it at no cost to you.

I`m not sure if you`ve tried this but let the vehicle warm up on the inside by turning on the heat so the door latches warm up. This has helped many people with this problem and if it works, you can at least get to work and to the dealer safely.

Hope this helps.

I have a '17 Lariat extended cab and I did get the recall notice from Ford. So far this winter, with several snow storms and temps as low as -10 I haven't had a problem but there is something I did notice - last summer after every heavy rain storm when I would open either of the rear doors, water would pour in a steady stream from the drain holes on the bottom of the door. Not talking about a few drops but rather enough water to leave a 3 foot puddle in my driveway.

Apparently Ford has a design issue with the rear window gasketing. I'm not sure but it appears that their recall fix consists of adding shielding to the latch mechanisms. If that's the case, how long before I start having problems with window motors and other hardware inside the doors?

An immediate trick I've used is spraying the locking mechanism/latch with de-icer. This has happened on both front and rear doors, won't close/latch. I believe with the extreme cold, the white grease or whatever is used, on the latch mechanism is causing the latch not to do its thing, at least that was the diagnosis weeks ago when the back door wouldn't close/latch-sprayed it with silicone spray, worked the latch till it moved freely and door closed and latched properly.

Awesome.

Glad to hear the interior warm up trick worked and hopefully the dealer can fix the problem.

I could be wrong and I hope it`s just this simple but this and other door latch issues sounds like a lubricant issue with it actually freezing when the temps drop too low.

I had this happen on my truck while I was up in VT on vacation recently. I got the truck to latch by actuating the mechanism with a screwdriver until it freed up. Then sprayed the latch with white lithium grease. Haven't had any problems since, but I"ll get it replaced with the recall as soon as I know parts are available.

Picked the truck up from the dealer with freshly lubricated door latches, Hopefully it works until they get the new part number in stock. I am going to Maine in two weeks and it would be inconvenient to have to deal with in those temps.

Awesome.

Well, if it acts up again on your trip to the northeast, now you know the trick to get the latches working again. Interior heat.

Enjoy the remainder of your weekend.
