Smile Just announced: Sync 3 Waze iPhone app

Ford just announced new Sync 3 support with Waze iPhone app via USB plug-in.

This may be a great handy app to get thru traffics.

Good news, but curious why not Bluetooth?

Perhaps he means via Apple CarPlay? Which (oddly), is not bluetooth compatible yet.

Hmm...I just used it yesterday and it didn’t do this. Maybe I need an update.

The Apple CarPlay definitely requires USB.

I think SYNC app also requires USB. I will check at home tonight to see if I can run SYNC app over bluetooth. I may be wrong, I think SYNC app such as Waze requires USB connection too.

well maybe this is why. This blog says you need to have sync 3, version 3 or higher. I guess i'll need to check into that, I think i'm on 2.3. Is version 3 even out/available for 2017 models?

Yeah it looks like there has not been an official release yet on 3.0 and that article on Waze says it should be available by March 2018...so I'd say we have some time for 3.0 to come out officially.

This is awesome. I tried using my Android work phone to use Waze while driving when I first got the truck, but didn't have access to my music, texts, phone calls, etc. so I gave it up.

Wondering if Ford was able to help out in the Google/Apple battle or if they just went around it?

I wonder if any of the guys who have already updated to 3.0 have tried it with success, or if that article is referencing Waze will have this feature enabled by March and is not actually referring to Ford. Its not really clear to me who we are waiting on from that article. i may drop a post in the sync 3.0 thread asking someone to check.

I've been using Waze (via AA, obviously not CarPlay) ever since I bought my 2017 F350 ~4 months ago. I can run Waze (again, through AA), have AA read my texts, send/receive calls, etc. Leave the AA screen (go back to Sync) and you can access the music stored on your phone OR use Pandora, etc., through AA.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this article implies that we'll be able to use Waze DIRECTLY through Sync 3.0 *without* using either CarPlay or Android Auto. The screen below shows a new button in Sync for Waze, while what I currently do is run AA and choose, among other things, Waze via the AA "Maps" button (can choose Waze or Google Maps).

Sync with a Waze button:

AA menu (not a Sync button) after AA takes over (CarPlay is similar):

See my post above. The screenshot of the Waze button directly in the Sync menu makes me think that Sync will support Waze directly, without running AA or CarPlay.

Correct, that is what I understand. Its called SYNC APP which doesn't use CarPlay or Android Auto. Just pure SYNC.

I have SYNC 3 because I bought the 2017 truck last month. Will check it out when I get home.

You have Sync 3, but very likely not version 3.0 and probably either 2.2 or 2.3. I have 2.3 installed and confirmed Waze does not work yet. It has been released now that version 3.0 supports the Waze app without using Carplay or Android Auto, which makes me very happy! Even something simple like being able to see the exterior temperature is annoying in Carplay. I was just contemplating buying a cheap Android just to leave connected in my truck too.

check out page 6 or 7 on this thread. I was hoping someone would chime in that's already done the update before doing the update and it not work.
