2 quarts low on New 2018 F-150

Hey Guys,

Could use you input. Bought a 2018 F-150 XLT (5.0 8 cyl)less than 2 weeks ago. Put about 600 miles on it. Long story short, I started to hear what sounded like valve tapping. I decided to check the oil and found it was two quarts low. Called dealer...they told me to add oil to see if it helped...it didn't. Dealer said he can't imagine how that happen but asked me to bring it in where they confirmed there are no leaks. Listened to it for 3 seconds...told me it sounds like a lifter and asked me to leave it. Called back and said they have to disassemble the engine.

My concern is could I have sustained damage in the week of low oil usage? If the dealer really did put initial oil in, how could It be 2 quarts low without any leaks? I realize that I'm covered under warranty, but my fear is that this may have caused damage that will not be discovered and may limit the life of my engine. Haven't got a diagnosis yet. To protect myself...what types of questions should I asked as I retrieve it?

I would appreciate your thoughts.
