Placement of fuse box?

Placement of fuse box?
Where did you guys put your fuse box, assuming you replaced with aftermarket? I was thinking about putting it behind the passenger seat to be closer to the battery. I’m also thinking of running all my engine harness relays, fuses, and ECM to a seperate fuse box under the cab behind the trans.
Looking for ideas from the guys that have done it already.

Drivers side kick panel area is a common spot, or anywhere under the dash that's easy to get to, as that's where the bulk of the wiring will be. Behind the seat is also a good spot to have it out of the way but still accessible. Personally, I wouldn't put it under the cab or anywhere where it would be difficult to access in an emergency or breakdown, or susceptible to weather and road conditions, oil leaks, etc. I had a trans fluid leak short out the brake light switch once where it was mounted stock on the master cylinder under the floor. That was a learning lesson right there. The last thing I would want would be my entire electrical system compromised by a similar problem.

I put mine on the inside of the firewall, above the steering column. Lots of room, fairly easy to get to. You'll need a flashlight though. If I were to do it again, I would put it on the interior fender, under the hood. There is more than enough wire, in the kits and plenty of room to work with those wires.

On my 49 I put it in a similar spot as Denny. The decision is how much you want to hide it (up higher on the firewall inner surface) verses being readily accessible (a bit lower). I wanted and have a clean firewall and clean inner fenders so the engine bay was out for me, that was important to me. Behind one of the kick panels is a good choice. In my case my windshield wiper drive motor is on the drivers side kick panel and my hidden under the fender heat and AC lines are in the passengers side kick panel. Some have put theirs behind the seat. In my case I retained the original fuel tank/tank location. Those were my considerations/constraints. Different guys will have different constraints depending on their build.

My fuse panel is centered right above my stock steering column. I bought my truck like that, but I'm planning to redo the wiring this summer because the panel is visible when the door open. Plan is to tuck it higher up on the firewall from its current location or in the left kick panel pocket.

If you have a stock engine, trans, etc. then Wayne's suggestion of the kick panel is a good one. I have a lot more electrical circuits than normal (4R70W automatic trans with Baumann controller, electric choke, high output headlamps, turn signals, Dolphin gauges, Lokar shift indicator, etc.) so I put mine under the dash so that I could get to it easily and not have to pinch any wires through small spaces. It makes it easier to make things neat after you get things working right also. It also allows for "project creep".
