I picked up a new to me 04 excursion

I won't know anything about the excursion as it is a 6.0 diesel. I know the 7.3L
Its a 4x4 with 181k in really nice condition. some oil on the passenger side coming from upper part of the engine but not enough to leave a puddle. I was to it had recalls done with oil coolers and other stuff.??? Any feedback to look for? I have been under it and searching for issues but have not founded any yet.

There are a lot of potential issues with the 6.0 Make sure you don't see any oil residue in the coolant. If it has the Ford gold colored coolant, you need to get rid of it as soon as possible with an entire system flush. There are a lot of threads on the 6.0, I would start to familiarize yourself with the "gotchas" with that motor. I would start with an EGR delete or a BPD EGR cooler. Next, I would go with the external oil cooler that BPD sells. Some have great luck with the factory cooler once the coolant is flushed and the EGR deleted or fixed. The oil leak may be a standpipe, so get up there and do some peaking around.

Thanks. I have been going through the stickies. BP is a lot of money , I have see reasons for doing it and not needing it. the 6.0 is very different from my 7.3 . What is a standpipe? Thank you for the feed back too!
