Newbie looking to upgrade 2000 Limited mirrors

I have had my 2000 Limited V10 2wd for a few years and have been doing mainly mechanical repairs. Transmission, brakes and all the fluid/filter changes. Once I discovered this forum I find there is a whole new world of upgrades being done. So I'm going to try my first, a simple change of the mirrors.

Didn't think I needed to go to the extreme of lighted and power fold so I've found these through info on the forum.

https://www.1aauto.com/ford-mirror-p...1111738&y=2000

Reviews of other cheaper aftermarket mirrors were not good but didn't find reviews for Trail Ridge. Anyone used their products? Any advice?

Thanks.

I just put these on my 00 excursion. I only drove with them once so far, yesterday.

So far I love them. The visibility is amazing - no blind spots at all now. As far the quality of them compared to cheaper alternatives it is hard to say. They seem good, but I do notice a tiny bit of vibrations in the larger mirror when driving. I've been advised by this board that eBay mirrors are much worse but I don't have experience with them. Also, I wondered if the 2000 mirrors from 1a are just the cheaper later model mirrors with simply a pigtail added. If so, I personally might have tried to save a couple bucks by buying the pigtails separately. Installation was very easy for me though, took about 5-10 mins each side.

I have had the 1aauto tow mirrors ('08+ style, power adjust, heat, smoked lights) for about 5 years with no issues, these are from before they began calling them the Trail Ridge brand, which was supposed to be a minor upgrade in quality over what I have and really like. I'd buy then again in a heartbeat!

Thanks for the feedback. This forum has some great information and participants. I have had a barn door latch broken for a year and am having that fixed today thanks to the info Tailgate77478 provided in the Tech Folder.

I've had these mirrors (mine has the turn signal/driving lights/heat though) on my Ex for over a month now and I love them. There is some vibrations on the passenger upper glass when freeway driving, but not enough to take away how great these mirrors are. I had the paddle mirrors before and now I have no blind spots.

I had the old style that were just heated, and electric adjust. I upgraded to the 08 style with heat, lights and electric adjust. I paid less than what you are paying and am very happy. The new ones came with the pigtails included so wiring was super simple. I've had them on for 3 months, and drive 75mph everyday, there is no distortion, or shaking at highway speeds.

I have a set that include the lights and power fold. LOVE them. Only thing I noticed was that the mirror pivot must be pretty tight...when you adjust them the mirror flexes...so you adjust it a bit more than you need to, then the opposite direction just a touch to get the flex out.

First day didn't realize it and couldn't figure out why my eyes were tweaking every time I looked in the mirror.

I have the 1 aauto 08+ mirrors as well...they've been on a couple of weeks. Heated, power adjust, lights. They are very solid and I've noticed no vibrations at any speed...even with a front tire that was badly out of balance. The power adjust works well. I didn't want to run the extra wiring for running lights so I jumpered the running light wire over to the signal wire such that both bulbs flash with the turn signal. Easy install and I would not hesitate to buy these same mirrors again. The only issue with them is the field of view is so large that when some jerk gets behind you with bright headlights, you can't just lean over a little and get away from the glare like you can with the little "hippo ear" mirrors.

No, the pigtails only did the heat and adjustments, I wired the lights, the connector on the mirrors is set up for it, I just pinned through the pig tail for the lights. I am comfortable, with doing so. My background is in electrical repair on Apache helicopters and then on C130's. Take your time, fishing the new wiring through the boot between the door and the cab, is truly the hardest part. I think total time between removing the old mirrors to testing everything was an hour. Please don't do it the way some of the you-tube hacks show, you'll end up shorting out and causing bigger problems.

Thanks for all the feed back, sounds like the Trail Ridge mirrors are solid.

Did get the barn door latch fixed with the info Tailgate77478 provided in the Tech Folder.
