02 AWD Mountaineer won't move in any gear

02 Mountaineer 4.6L AWD, 170K miles.
Drove fine to work. Parked for 7 hrs, Leaving work, heard a "pop" imediately at startup (before engaging gear shift). Went to shift in reverse and didn't move and same in any gear. Has been frigid cold here for almost 2 weeks but has been fine prior otherwise. Starts and runs fine.

It's currently sitting in the parking lot and will take a better look at it tomorrow. Any clues before I investigate? This I believe is the 5R55W transmission.
Thanks all

Did you get this fixed? Was it the shift linkage popped off?
