Which Fuel tank does my truck have?
I just bought a long bed 95 f-150 v8 5.0 4wd a couple days ago. the previous owner installed a gas tank, but i have no idea what tank it is, or what fuel pump or module is in it.
Right now when the tank is totally empty it reads 1/4 tank. He also installed a direct line to the fuel pump from the battery through a switch in the cab to make it run. Eventually ill sort out this wiring fiasco...
in the mean time I want to replace the tank with the proper tank and the proper fuel pump and module so my gas gauge is accurate and to ease my mind about a faulty fuel pump.
its a two tank truck, but Im just going to be messing with the front tank. I see all these options on rockauto for possible tanks. i dont understand what the difference is between side mount and mid ship tank. also my truck is fuel injected, and one of the tank/pump combos says specifically for fuel injected.
im assuming i just need to grab that first option for fuel injected trucks. 17 gallon drivers side mount. and itll just be plug and play.
any help with this?
i actually got the truck for scrap prices because the guy thought the fuel pump was dead....he towed it to my place. i put gas in it, and it started right up!

Have to agree the choices are confusing. Terminology vague between side and front tanks, are these the same?
Would have already ordered, but waiting to pull bed and visually confirm by sight. Same with the pumps, it would be real nice of there were some way to confirm the specific applications. Do not want the hassles of returning items!
Just my 2 cents. Anyone have suggestions?

Side mount, mid-ship, and front tank are all the same. Rear and aft-axle are the same as well. I believe Ford uses the nomenclature Midship and Aft/Axle for describing the tank location. Below is from the '96 service manual, and it includes all possible fuel tank options at the end of it. I believe that '95 is the same, with regard to fuel tanks, anyway. If you read the specs at the end, you'll notice that in '96, if you had a 4x4 F-150 with two tanks, the Midship tank is 19 gallons, and the aft/axle tank is 18.2 gallons - regardless of cab size/wheelbase.
