Welcome aboard 2.5gl.
Good evening Oregon and everyone everywhere else. Had some 30 mph winds today. Made it interesting while working up on the roof of the camper today.
Had a bunch more of the get out of my way, your kids don't need to fish in the pond or the play in the park 'cause we PDX protestors are more important today. Had me all gummed up here at home. I could get the car in and out of the driveway but no way I could get 28 foot of boat, motor and trailer hooked to the back of the 28' foot of pickup and camper backed through the tight hole they left me for the driveway. One of them was nice enough to move my garbage can up on the curb so they could park where I had had it for garbage pickup Friday.
Congrats on the parking lights and the headlights Chris. I pulled the lenses and cleaned all of my clearance lights up today. Got them all put back together and low and behold they all still work. I didn't push my luck with the one I replaced in its entirety yesterday. Also mopped/cleaned the roof, repaired the camper Wx Station antennae, fixed a seal on the escape hatch and squirted a couple of suspicious looking seams with RV sealant.

Morning all....
Jim you get those boat trailer brakes figured out? I'm assuming they are locking up headed down hill? Drums?
I'll refrain from commenting on your protesters.

Good morning Oregon and everyone everywhere else. 56.3°, 91.4% humidity, clear skies at the moment. Had some sprinkles last night starting around 2200. Heavy fog/cloud bank seems to be lifting up off the beach. Guess we'll see if it burns off before it gets here.
DL -4 and a wakeup. It may be busy, but I think here we will look back on it and think it was pretty short. In addition to getting everything prepped for 2 1/2 weeks in the mountains camping, fishing and keeping 2 teenage, 1 pre-teen and a wanna be teen occupied, we still have to make a trip to Costco and I have to inventory and replenish bait and tackle on the boat.
It's going to be a busy and long short week.

I don't know if we got 'em figured out or not. Our last trip to the High Cascades I had them adjusted to what I thought was just right. Carried my heat gun with us and would stop and take the temps on the wheels every so often. Made one minor adjustment on the left side and all seemed good. Coming down the steep grade, stopped to check after about 10 miles of grade, 5 or 6 miles of plus 6%, and they were hot enough to fry eggs on, in the 180 (port) to 210 (starboard) range. The pickup had been maintaining speed by taking it out of OD or putting it in 2nd. Brakes on the pickup were hardly used at all. It appears that the only time we have a problem occur is when coming down steep grades. It's like the boat/trailer are trying to go faster than the pickup, riding up on the hitch which would cause the coupler connected actuator to "drag" the brakes.
After cooling the brakes down I backed the adjustment star back to where, for all intents and purposes, there were no brakes on the trailer. Had no problem after that and they were running at about ambient temp thereafter. At least I know the bearings are fine and not a contributory factor. We've made several short trips to Detroit or Devils Lake since and have had zero problems.
First thing we did Saturday was jacked the trailer up, checked for any play indicating a bearing problem and finding none, moved on to the brakes. The starboard side had only the slightest amount of effect when we spun the tire and put full weight on the actuator. The port side had apparently adjusted itself back to the point that when spun and full actuator applied, it stopped spinning in about a turn. My son thought it had self adjusted up. Problem being, these drum brakes don't have self adjusters on them. I put these brakes on brand new (everything from and including the backing plate) last June and they only have around 1500 miles on them.
So, we set both sides for the brakes to stop the wheels from spinning, but just short of the locking up the wheel.
