what line is that? I've done the Elbe line in single digit temperatures a few years ago and the Prineville dinner train down in Oregon back when I was probably 12-13. Steam engine or diesel loco? I find old engines fascinating. If you know what engine you had, I would be very interested to spend way too much time scanning the interwebs for info on it for my own entertainment.

Old trains are cool.
When I was in kindergarten in American Falls ID I recall a short school trip on one. I don't recall if it was modern or steam.
The last time I was on any train was Toronto to Montreal and back a week later.

@Onug where did you go for Donuts? Was it just for Donuts?
Have some squealing coming from the brakes, going to have to take a look Monday. Might work out since I have PMF lines to install and planning on grabbing Calipers for the front.

agreed... theres an old logging rail in WV that uses old rotary steam engine trains id like to go take a ride on sometimes... supposed to be an 8 hr trip if you take the full excursion... takes you through all the small "rest" stops up the hill to where they use to do the logging...

Let’s see if I can get everyone’s questions in one post...
Donuts: They are from a street vendor in Ouray, CO. He’s got one of those machines like at Pike Place Market that makes the donuts right in front of you. Very delicious. We drove up to Ouray for the day from Durango to check out the town. I highly recommend both the drive on I-550 and visiting Ouray. We will return again at some point to do all the off-road trails.
Train: This is the Durango-Silverton run, again in Colorado. Not sure the train #, but I overheard it was built in the 1920’s and is one of three in existence (all three are owned by this company). They have both diesel and steam engines and just restarted using the steam units this past Thursday. It’s a four hour ride up to Silverton, two hour “layover” and then the return run. I’m not a train person by any stretch, but it was a lot of fun (but a long day). There’s a bar on the train and good BBQ in Silverton, so I was happy. More info here: https://m.durangotrain.com/

389 miles today and another skunked donut hunt. Guess the store went out of business. Got a few places lined up for tomorrow however.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Internet research shows two of the three 470 Series steam engines are restored and operational - 473 and 476
They also have 4 480 Series engines - 480, 481, 482, 486, all operational
They also have 1 490 Series, 493, that doesn't do the route anymore - something about the trailing car having trouble - I'm assuming that means it is too big, it's a pretty big looking engine.
Looks like fun - I'd be all about 7 hours on a loco - I can nerd out all day with anything that can be loosely classified as heavy machinery of any sort =P

The one looks like a fritter that has been rounded off. I happen to like the crispy edges on my Apple Fritter.
How is the temp down there?

Dude, it’s hot. Temps have ranged from 95-98 according to the truck. It’s a dry heat, so we have been able to get out and some walking. But it taps your strength quickly.
Drove to Boise yesterday. That has got to be one of the most boring drives in the US. Temps ranged from 95-102. Hitting a rest stop was like walking into a hair dryer.

You should of stopped in twin and looked at the falls.
Then the other place to visit is the Canyon Crest Dining and Event Center
Good food but I don't know if they have open dining or if it has to be some
event. They are down stream of the falls in the canyon.
