Well I got the bed off. I sort of got hung up when I broke my last two T50 sockets. Noting new
with that because the stupid bed bolts always rust into place. But out of eight I only had to cut
three of them. It was getting cold and also too late to be making noise. So I'll finish in the AM.
I used both and and I got zip. Part of the issue is the bolts are not round.
They use a squared bolt so that it is very unlikely to self back off. I ran a
die on one to see if I could clean it up and talk about bits into the bolt in
odd places. The bolt had 4 heavy cuts on it from the die. Also the "J" clips
don't help the issue. They work like a little cup to hold any crap that gets
on top of them.
I heated one up to glowing red and the same with that one too. The only
good thing was when I put new bolts on the other truck I think I cur five
out of eight and got lucky around the fuel tank because that one was
not stuck like the other ones. If I still have that bolt I ran the die on I will
post a photo of it for you.
Well guys, I think my truck has officially started its 90-day clock. At the dealership right now for two recalls and a TSB. Recalls are not a big issue, I am glad Ford steps up to them. But one of them is to do more “fixes” to a previous recall (frozen door locks). Dealership said it’s one of the worst repairs he’s ever seen and will take two days to complete.
The TSB is a major grind of mine (pun intended). I’ve been chasing a grinding noise in the 4-wheel drive system for over a year. It sounds like the front hubs are trying to engage. I have at least six trips for this issue to two different dealerships plus Les Schwab to try and solve. I’ve vented about this prob here more than once. Anyway, the TSB basically has the dealership inspecting the entire vacuum system and wheel bearings...replacing items as necessary.
This had better work. If my locks don’t freeze and I don’t get any grinding noises I’ll be happy. Very happy. If it doesn’t work...well, it will be time to see what problems another OEM has. If there was a common link between this truck and my ‘13 Explorer, it’s the dealerships can’t fix problems, just swap parts and pray it works.
Warn is reported to be making the hubs for Ford so they don't want to loose that cash cow.
When you go into a dealer or most any shop now a days they don't have any mechanics really.
They do have part swappers and that is about all. Not many know hw to fix something right the
first time. That is very sad.
@Bently_Coop - I slept quite well last night. Now to go crank on some cut off bolts. FUN - NOT.
I tried the stud remover last night before I went in for the night. No go. Do I soaked the nut bolt
interface down with Kroil as the last thing for the night. I am going to heat things up before I do
any cranking on them. If that does not do it I have three nice fresh recip-saw blades to use.
Then they fall back on just toss parts at it and hope one of the $10,000 in parts sticks and fixes it.
Mean while the owner is stuck with the bill or if under warrantee the loss of the vehicle for a long time.
The funny thing about throwing parts iis always seems that the $1.98 part out of the $10,000 in
parts is the one that fixed the problem.
The dealership just called. They found the leak, which is good news. But sure seems like even a junior mechanic should have been able to find the problem if given a chance. It’s a fricken vacuum system. I think a combination of lack of mechanic skills, combined with the complex systems on these vehicles and Ford’s strict reimbursement policy makes a Trifecta of Suck that leaves consumers holding the bag.
I spent most of the morning “working” and looking at alternate rides. There really isn’t much to consider. Both Ram and Chevy are putting out new truck designs this year, so that’s a no go from a “never the first year perspective. I drove a Toyota last summer and was underwhelmed. But you know it will be the most reliable of the bunch. I just can’t get even remotely excited about Nissan. Ended up pondering a 2016 F-250 with the 6.2 gasser. I could prob do an even trade for my truck and get out of the F-150 issues. That truck would be perfect for our small trailer.
But...all that’s on hold now. I’m going to just pray my 4wd system is fixed!
I keep getting phone calls saying I have won a gift from Marriott or Costco.
Too bad that can't be fixed.
I think anyone that is busted for hacking computers and selling the info or
using it to send scam mails or ads should have to spend 5 years in the
tent jail out in some desert starting in the winter months that Sheriff
Joe Arpaio setup.
