Mine has had powerstroke diesel badges on it since 94.5. new. In 94 ford put out 3 engine configurations a 7.3l naturally aspirated -a 7.3l turbo both of which were not direct injection and the 94.5 powerstroke which is direct injection. If I remember correct.
Youre saying the "powerstroke" sticker on the truck i'm looking at is correct? Ovbiously Talyn says differently, just trying to clear things up as I can see either situation being plausible.
Also, the VIN shows it being a powerstroke, 8th place in VIn is an 'F'
Also this truck I’m looking at has an aFe cold air intake, should I be worried about it sucking in dust and other particles therefore I’d have to check the turbo impeller on the air intake side for damage? Thanks for all the replies

I would suggest checking it very well. A damaged blade can tell you that dirt has most likely gotten in the cylinders . The afe usually has a good report. I would worry about the time before the afe being installed.

Thanks, Im taking it to a diesel tech to get it looked at. Besides the turbo inspection, what else should I get the tech to look at? compression test, fuel pressure test, maybe test drive?

You don't need a diesel tech. Most of them don't know the 7.3, and you really have to know what makes these tick and what to look for. Read the tech folders at the top. There is a LOT of info in there that will give you a comprehensive list of what to look for. I know that Fordpride has a good list he posts when this question is asked. I'll see if I can find it and copy it here or maybe he will chime in.

Not just any "diesel tech" knows much about these in reality sadly. I would not bother taking it just anywhere unless I spoke with the tech and he actually knew something. Heck it's hard in places to find a dealer tech that knows these anymore.
The OBS F250s have the twin traction beam front axle that's known to wear out quick under the weight of the diesel. Check the ball joints and bushings on the front end.

ball joints on one side have definitely been replaced, other side look much older. So no go on the tech? Im not comfortable pulling the intake off to inspect the turbo on someones else's truck, I know its important but obviously I couldn't do much more than what i've already looked for.
Ill check out the info here as well, thanks.
what are the tech folders? is the the how tos at the top?
Yes, but as far as comfort level, I'd just about tear one apart LOL....you are the buyer after all. I have taken off fuel filters, intakes, and checked blow by on any 7.3 I look at. I check all fluids for burnt smells or incorrect applications. I jack it up and check for ball joint play and bearing health. Run the gamut man....it's your money.

Is cavitation an issue on these trucks? Is there a dipstick for the manual transmission to check the fluid? hanks

Cavitation is not an "issue" per se, but it can happen. It isn't the norm though by any means. You can check the ZF-5 by pulling the fill plug. Fluid should come out and it should be pink if they used the correct fluid. Check for blow by putting the oil cap on the fill hole of the engine while it is idling. if it dances around, you are ok. If it gets blown off, pass on the truck.
