6.2L hours vs mileage recommendations. Need advice.

Hello. I posted this in perhaps the wrong forum. Admins please delete if the other is wrong. I do not want to spam.

Need any advice. Looking to buy a used truck in two days.
6.2L
93000 miles
Engine hours are 7796
Idle hours are 5684

Was a border patrol truck I'm told. Carfax has everything done at 5k intervals at the same dealership in Arkansas.

Great shape. Looks very well. The price is very good.

Would anyone here be fearful of purchasing this with all the hours?

nope.
these are good engines.
total hours works out to around 280k miles, which is not real bad.
with full maintenance records on a clean looking truck, i would say go for it if the price is rite..

Since they have records of service every 5k -- I would not have a problem purchasing. Just check it over good from top to bottom - even craw under and check things out.

Thanks a lot. I've read pretty much all I can on the subject. It looks like only one person ever drove it. I'm going to go look in the morning and see what it looks like. Bringing flashlights to comb over it. I'll be there a while.

I've been wrenching for years just never tore into an engine. I really appreciate it all.

We need to protect Arkansas borders.

Sorry for the ******* post I thought it was funny at the time. Good luck on your search. I would most definitely stay away from ESOF vacuum hubs and all that. Unless you want it that's cool. Get a manual shift transfer case but look for an XL with power locks and windows. I really like black grills on all makes even the older base Toyotas they look sweet and like people are working.

Well I decided to pass on it with some many hours idling. The salesman said he has a second being processed with the same setup. 63000 miles. 2100 idle hours. When its ready I'm going to go take a look at that one instead. They are asking 19k. Seems high for a service truck but a lot less than other crew cab 4wd. Within my range easily. Would y'all say the price is too high or acceptable.

Thanks a lot for the recs. I'll update with what I find.

the best I can say.. 4x4 is worth 3 to 4 thousand..

in 2015 I purchased my 2012 "XL"... from a dealer...

136,000 miles.. 2 wheel drive .. clean unit with service records.. one owner Fleet/Lease in Ohio.

I paid $15,000...
AC, power mirrors, cruise control, power windows. AM/FM. Tow and slide-in camper packages.. with factory trailer brake controller...4 new tires and brakes..

only thing I had to do to truck.. maintenance / fluids... serpentine belt and idlers..the past 2 years.

but Only you can say if that is a deal for you..
happy hunting.

fyi, if you get the "VIN" off of a truck.. on Ford web-site. you can get a copy of the when New window sticker...
mine was $36,500 NEW.

yes that's close to what the Vin said. What sucks is down here the market is a sellers market. With hurricane Harvey taking so many off the raod the supply is waaaay down. I've found a few xlt trucks here but with zero service records. That's scares me. Who knows if they've been flooded. At least this way we get an entire car history from out of thus area. It does have power windows and locks. Has the esof as well. Not the biggest fan of that but if its clean I do like for my hunting and fishing and work the idea of no carpet and stripped down with kids and gear. We'll see.

Again thanks for the discussion. Its a big deal being I am a single earner as the wife quit teaching and stays hone with kids. Its a big deal to buy a vehicle knowing the margin for error is larger with the one income. Its why I've searched out a knowledgeable base. I've only owned a bunch of Chevy 350s until my 5.4 triton. These new setups are still new and I'm studying my *** off to learn them.

I camp 5 months a year.. (retired).. so mud and wet shoes is a way of life...

"XL" was the plan from the start .. rubber flooring.. cloth seats..

research is real Good idea.. I spent 6 months looking for a good Work/towing truck..
as my screen name is... First Ford... I am a retired "C" dealership mechanic...
and they were not near the top of my list...

$19,000 seems inline with the prices I’ve seen on Autotrader lately. Miles and hours sounds good too.
When I bought mine with 82,000 miles it needed front end parts and hub parts. Covered under the extended warranty.
But when I picked it up I couldn’t put gas in it. It was the charcoal canister and the dealer I bought it from fixed it. That would have been $600+ not covered under the ESP.
I don’t think you will have a problem with the engine or transmission but it can be the other things. I have a check engine light and airbag light on now. I’ll drop it off at the Ford dealer this week and get a little more out of the ESP. The CEL can be related to the catalytic converters on trucks that have high idle hours. From what I’ve read here on the forum.
I love the truck and have no regrets. I am glad I bought the ESP. If for no other reason I just made me feel better buying such a new used truck.
