Turbo noise

Can everyone hear your turbos spool down when you abruptly take your foot off the accelerator? Is this normal?

Sorry, it's a 2008 6.4 and as I'm brand new to the diesel world I can only assume that this is what I'm hearing

I think you are discribing “turbo fart” I used to hear it in my 7.3 and do hear it in my 6.4 when you get on it and let off the gas abruptly. I don’t think it’s anything to worry about but will get some more answers soon. You may hear it easier if you have an aftermarket intake.

I've never heard turbo "bark" on mine. I still have the EGR valve/coolers installed though. Even though as I understand it, the EGR valve is disabled via the tune and stays open all the time...which should make it like having deleted the system (high intake elbow)..........right? Though we talk about worring about wastegates only after deleting the EGR valve. ???

Turbo bark isn't a good thing...ever. Essentially the sound is a result of pressures being exerted on components in such a way as they weren't designed or intended.

Ok if this noise is a bad thing,.....what makes it do this and what can i do to prevent it. Is it because the mods? I have dpf deleted, a cold air intake and the egr is still there but disabled by my Torque technologies tuner.
and your comment brings to mind that when a tuner disables the egr i would think that the valve is always closed. Am i wrong in this assumption?
