So took the valve covers off my engine. Looks like everything has a nice coat of oil. Now...i know these rocker arms are non adjustable. But, how do I tell if the tolerances aren't right. I did jiggle each push rod and almost all of them were tight except 2 of them. What would this mean?
They should all have pressure on them as they are hydraulic lifters. If any of them have "lash" you have a problem...
could it make a knocking noise? I heard from other people that fe engines seem to bend push rods a little easier and when they are bent it causes a knockingish sound
But so I get this straight. At no time should the push rod be loose on the rocker correct?
so went out this morning and jiggled all the rocker arms and push rods. On #5 cylinder one of the rockers I can move back and forth on the rockshaft or whatever that shaft is called

You can rock it back and for with ease? That is bad - very bad...

The shop manual says the clearance between the rocker and the shaft is .002 to .005 with the wear limit at .006. You shouldn't be able to wiggle anything. How many miles are on that engine?

good question lol. Not positive but I think 200000. I know it's ready for a rebuild. I will eventually do one.
Well looks like the video won't be happening lol. Decided to just start tearing the top end down. I got as far as getting the driver side head off. Things are looking pretty good. Looked like someone was in the engine before me. There were newer gaskets. And I can definitely tell why I had a manifold leak lol. Really bad gasket. I'll send some pics when I can. The only thing I noticed was that one cam lobe almost looked like it had like a flat spot on it. Maybe it was the light reflecting off it not too sure. I will be getting a new cam and lifters. Does anyone have any recommendations on one preferably under 200. Thanks
