Steering wheel shaking around 60 to 70 MPH

I've got a shake in the steering wheel of my 2007 F150 CC 4x4. Its noticeable at 60 MPH and bad at 70. I was under it yesterday and had my dad turn the wheel back and forth. There is a slight clicking noise coming from the ends of my steering rack. Is that normal? Would that be a sign of the inside tie rod connection wearing out or the rack and pinion going bad? Just looking for some experience with this, I hate throwing money and time at it just to not get any further along.

Thanks

Nic

I would think it would have more to do with wheel balance and alignment than the rack and pinion setup.... do you see any significant tire wear on the edges ? How long has it been since tires were balanced and align ?

I had a similar problem with my 2002 and checked EVERYTHING... I could feel it at 60-70 MPH, but not "bad" ............ ended up being the rear drive shaft U-joint dry and bearing starting to spall.

99% of the time the problem is wheel/tire-related. Balance, tire belt separation, bent wheel, etc. Alignment almost never causes wheel hop.
