Flathead Picture Album

Since there isn't a lot of traffic on the Flathead Engine Forum, I thought I'd just post some pictures.

1953 239-CI 8RT Flathead V8, original for my truck, with 1960's vintage #400 Offenhauser heads and #1090 2-2V Offenhauser intake.

The bore is standard, with standard rings. The crank is original and has been turned 10/10. It has the original cam and original type solid lifters, bumping the original valves.

It has an Offenhauser mechanical fuel pump feeding 2 Holley #94 carburetors, rebuilt with kits from Vintage Speed, outfitted with #50 jets and 4.5 power valves. The throttles will be configured to run in tandem.

The assembly is completed with a single-wire GM type alternator, a Procomp Electronics model PC8574 distributer, controlled by a Mallory Hy-Fire-6a ignition box, and a set of Red's Headers.

The first picture is circa 1982. The rest are more current.

Sweet sweet looking engine! Got a buddy trying to talk me into putting one in my 52' in place of the I6. Do they run well? What is their peculiarity ?

Didn’t know this forum existed. Guess I should look through entire index. Here’s some pictures of my 8BA

The sad truth is that not many folks come to the Flathead Engine forum. Most flathead owners are in the '48-'56 forum, or the '47 and older.

For a laugh, here is a flathead powered '79 Ford Pinto wagon:
