Recall: FSA 17M04

Just received a note from my dealership of a possible recall on the Crankcase Ventilation Oil Separator Assembly. My truck is a 2015 PSD KR

A FSA (field service action) is not a recall.

Goggling FSA 17M04 shows it to be a warranty extension to 120,000 from warranty start date. Some say your letter/notification from Ford may not arrive til February.

If you log into Ford Owner, it gives you similar info as probably your dealer supplied you. It is showing up on my 2015 F350 on the website. FordPass should show similar.

There might be a possibility of getting a refund from Ford if the CCV has been replaced or repaired previously.

This just showed up on my vehicle health report.

Does anyone know what the supposed weak point / failure mode of the CCV is that they are concerned about?

If it's somehow falling apart and ingesting dirt into the engine, I'd rather find out sooner than later. If a little crank case gas is venting a hair too much, I'm not quite as concerned.

Chris

Do a search of this forum for CCV and crankcase ventilater, and other similar terms. I think there have been some threads about it.

I tried when I got the notice. This forums search function and me don't get along too well. I found this thread by searching google for the FSA number. Searching the 6.7 section on FTE with the same words got me nothing.

Chris, a more effective way of searching the FTE site is to enter something like this in Google:

Quote:
FSA 17M04 site:www.ford-trucks.com
The key is to add the "site:" part. Unfortunately, you can't filter down to just one of the forums with that search method. The advanced search on this site will let you filter down to a single (or multiple) forum.

Chris,

Here is one thread from searching for "Crankcase". Appears it will throw a code P04DB. You might search for that code.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...case-vent.html

Here is the section from the MY2015 OBD System Operation

https://www.motorcraftservice.com/freeresources/obd

The 6.7L diesel engine has a crankcase ventilation separator mounted on the driver side rocker cover, with a
tube connecting the separator to the fresh air inlet of the turbocharger. The tube on the separator side has a
tamper proof collar installed and is plastic welded to the separator. On the fresh air inlet side, a hall effect sensor
is present, to detect connection to the inlet casting assembly. The tube cannot be disconnected on the separator
side, and if it is disconnected from the inlet casting, a P04DB code is set, as sensor output drops below a
calibrated threshold. There are also circuit range checks, P04E2 and P04E3 to detect shorts to ground, or short
to battery/disconnected sensor, respectively.
Crankcase Ventilation Monitor
DTCs P04DB – Crankcase Ventilation System Disconnected
P04E2 – Crankcase Ventilation Hose Connection Sensor Circuit Low
P04E3 – Crankcase Ventilation Hose Connection Sensor Circuit High
Monitor Execution Once per driving cycle – P04DB
Continuous – P04E2, P04E3
Monitor Sequence None
Sensors OK P04DB - CVM (P04E2, P04E3)
Typical Monitoring Duration 2 sec

So scuttlebutt I have heard is that the filter/separator is clogging causing excessive crankcase pressure. The new system you can replace the filter (>2017). I'm waiting on a retro fit solution that I assume Ford is working on.

Thanks Larry. That makes me feel a bit better. As long as the code is tripped if unfiltered air is entering the intake, I do fee better.

I wonder if the warranty will cover the resulting oil leaks if that is indeed what's going on?
