Rear fender question

51 f1

I have fiberglass rear fenders and they don't have bolt holes prepped in them. How do you determine exactly where to line them up to drill and bolt them up?

I would either use the old ones as templates or if you dont have them I would make cardboard templates off the sides of the bed and transfer to the fenders.

thanks-
I do not have the old fenders. I thought of the template idea but was worried it may not translate well for up and down? I haven't tried so maybe there is only 1 way that they will work with the layout?

I would do two things. First, use the running boards to determine both the front/back and the up/down. Second, use a level to assure the plane of the bed matches the plane of the top of the fender. Set your bolt holes after getting the piece properly located.

Here is a chart that I got from somebody here on FTE (sorry I usually save the source - Ross?).

Look closely at the flanges on the new fenders. Mine (glass) had dimples where the holes are to be drilled.

What I did on mine was mount the fenders where they need to be to match up with the running boards and clamp them to the bed (I used vice grips) and running boards. Then when you are sure the fenders are where you want them drill the holes from inside the bed into the fender flange.

That would be my handy work Pete. This chart is taken from a 53-56 bedside...I am not sure how/if that translates to an F1. The OP has not mentioned whether his bed has fender mounting holes in it...if it does then the fender hole location becomes a bit easier.

If you have someone close to you with fenders off the truck that would be the best. I had a local guy come and use mine to determine the hole locations.

That is what I did when I moved my fenders. I first cleaned up the area then painted it with rattle can light gray primer. Then clamped the fenders where I wanted them then marked the holes with a Sharpie.
