Turbo rebuild need help

I have these two o rings from the sp turbo kit and I have no idea where they go. I’ve followed the instruction to a t and it does not mention them. Anybody know what they go to and what I missed?

They also include the TP38 O rings aswell (94.5-97 powerstroke) the orange is for the compressor housing and the black one is for the bearing housing to back plate.

Awesome thank you very much. I got done and was like you have to be kidding me what the heck did I miss. Didn’t want to get it all together then find out I missed them somewhere. I don’t get why they would include those for an older model when the kit is for a 99-03. But o well got her back together and will find out how I did in morning.

They share the same innards, but what chamges is the size of the exaust turbine.

You be a brave man rebuilding one. IMHO. I always go for a pro rebuilt, or a low-mileage take-off turbo. Let us know how it goes.

I rebuilt my turbo a couple of years ago, this was my first time. It was not difficult at all really as long as you take your time.

Did you balance it? That's what I hear is the best part about a pro rebuild, ability to perform dynamic balance.

No, there are arguments for both sides of the fence on balancing vs no balancing. What I ended up coming up with was that 95% of the people rebuilding their turbos do not have them balanced. The wheels are balanced and when mounting they do just fine.

Now, if you were looking to make a dyno rig or something, I would certainly balance the shaft and wheels, but for most applications it is not required.

Agreee it was actually very easy and fun to do. Was told the new shaft I got was already balanced and there was no need for any further balancing. Went for a ride today and it performed great and didn’t have any problems. So far so good and one heck of a lot cheaper than a new one or pro rebuild that is for sure. Was definitely scary at first tearing into it that far but now I feel accomplished and the fear was for nothing.

You know, whenever I start an adventure such as rebuilding the turbo or swapping out the up-pipes I stop and think to myself. I think, there have been people long before me that have done what I am attempting with much less mechanical ability than I have and they got the job done. I figure if they can do it, so can I.

I make mistakes and screw things up, but it is how you handle those mistakes and screw up that brings a big sense of pride.

Henry, now every time you hear the turbo spin up you will smile just a bit more knowing that you are the one that made that happen.
