The Ford/Saginaw P/S gearbox has a flaw, there are no bearings on the sector shaft, it rides directly on the housing. So before too long, fluid begins leaking from the sector shaft seal.

Red Head Steering Gears takes the housing, machines it to install the needle bearings that Ford omitted...on purpose, so they could sell a gazillion sector shaft seal kits!

So-called auto parts store "rebuilt" gearboxes are nothing more than resealed gearboxes!

A stock one off of a parts truck. I was unaware that the f150 boxes mounted with 3 holes on the outside of the frame so I'm stuck with my bad one for now. Starting to lean towards a redhead if I can't get this box to work. There's a couple things I want to try before I spend all the money on a redhead though. I'm a millwright by trade so not being able to figure out this seal is getting pretty annoying

Alright I got it figured out. Feel pretty dumb but glad it's back together. I ****ed up the seal arrangement at the bottom of the sector shaft. I had the large ID spacer behind the seal and the pressure was folding the seal over the spacer and tearing it. Small ID spacer has a push fit on the shaft and backs the seal. Took it for a drive and all seems well. Thanks for the help.

I only pulled the sector shaft out to change those seals and those were the only two pictures I took. I think I have some pics of when I did the full rebuild on my computer at home. The kit came from Broncos graveyard if I remember correctly.
