2015 F250 Cooper discoverer AT3 for mostly highway

at 60,000 miles on my 2015 f250 the stock Michelins are shot...besides the tread being worn the fronts do show some cupping on the outer edges as well, so it's time to replace them. I drive mostly highway and tow a 8000lb travel trailer about 3-4000 miles a year.

I live in the northeast so good snow performance is important to me as well as low noise since I'm at highway speed most of the time. I'm almost never off road with the truck.

I've had many people recommend the Cooper discoverer AT3 and while the price is decent and it has a nice look to it, I'm not sure about the longevity and noise level on the highway being an AT tire.

Anyone have any experience with this tire or other recommendations given my requirements?

I like the Cooper AT/3's. They're good in the snow, and enough enough to give you traction off road as well. They do make some noise though. But I think any tire with a more aggressive tread will make noise.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm almost never off road and noise is an important consideration for me. Might just bite the bullet and get the expensive Michelins again as they were acceptable in the quiet on the highway and acceptable in the snow until they were at the wear bars...now they are horrible in the snow! The truck came with the LTX AT2, so either that or the defender LTX M/S are options in the Michelins....@ $75 more/tire

A good friend of mine had michelins on his Dodge when he got it. He loved those tires for their ride, and noise. Don't know which type they were, but they were a straight tread. His truck is a garage/highway queen that never sees off road use except for parking his camper. That said, he would get stuck on flat ground if the grass had dew on it. He mostly uses it to pull a camper, so it never sees snow. He just recently bought tires for it, Firestone AT is what he went with, and he likes them a lot. They were cheaper than Michelins but were more noisy, but acceptable for him. And he's one of those guys that's very **** when it comes to things like his truck and cars. He considered the Cooper AT/3's but could get the Firestones cheaper.

I have All Country A/Ts on my F250. I do a lot of highway and paved country roads. They are pretty quiet on the highways.

My '05 EXcursion doesn't get driven in the salty Winter so I have no first hand snow traction experience, but it's otherwise used like your truck. Tows our 11,000lb TT 3,000/6,000 a year, mostly highway and never offroad. I am running the Nitto Dura Grappler Highway Terrain tires and love them, wearing well, handle great even at over 6,000lbs rear axle weight and are the quietest truck tire I've ever used. Mine are 305/70R18 (12.5" X 35"), which makes how quiet they are even more impressive to me.
I have read online where others have had decent snow traction with them, but like I said I have not used them in snow myself.

I love the Cooper AT3's, and have ran several sets. But for what you are looking for in a tire sounds like the Michelin Defender LTX would be my first choice. I am on my 2nd set of them, super quiet and great road handling. They also do very well in the snow. Last year I drove the Santiam Pass a lot, and I was pleasantly surprised how well they did. Either way, each of these tires are my favorite 2 that I've ever had, and I have had a lot.

I tried to switch to the Cooper AT3 on my 2013 F250 with the 275/65/20 size tires. Three different sets were enough out of round so that had a terrible bounce starting at 40mph. The tire place said their road force machine couldn't get them below 75# which you will definitely feel.

I just gave up and went back to the original Michelin AT2. Seems the super duty is very princess and the pea when it comes to round tires and balanced wheels.

I've actually heard some other similar stories with the coopers, so I'm now leaning towards the Michelin Defender LTX m/s for the additional $300 overall cost

The Defender LTX M/S are the tires I actually have now; very good wet and dry traction in my opinion. I think I have close to 20k on them, wearing well as long as I keep them rotated.

IIRC I paid just under $1100 out the door for them. 275/65/20 as I mentioned previously...good luck!

leaning towards the LTX M/S Discount tire has them for $242 each in my size 275/70/18 and my local mechanic told me $280/each out the door so I'll let him make a few $$ and keep the business local.

or for $40 more I could go for the AT2's which were good to me with 60k on them and never once rotating them! .....yeah I know...I should have!

I got 33K on my AT3s. The first set of coopers I was not impressed with. Yes I maintained with regular 5K rotation and air pressure at 70 PSI. The only thing I could thing of is I got a set with softer rubber compounds. Currently I have a set of Firestones Transforce ATs that seem to be getting some better wear than any thing I had on the truck.

Good luck with the tire search.
