Yesterday I filed a complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about the defective LIPPERT front levelers on my unit and DRV units in general. My situation was that the levelers were leaking down while going down the road causing a real concern for our safety while driving and safety in general.

I would encourage anyone with similar situations where the front Levelers are leaking down -- on the road or not -- to go to the NHTSA website and report your problem. Here is the site information:

Wow, that is a big concern. By leak down, are you saying the fluid is leaking and dripping onto the surface which would potentially get onto the tires, or are you saying the actual legs are leaking down/lowering and getting closer to the ground as you drive along?

 

I interpreted it as the legs dropping down creating a major hazard on the road.

 

if the legs are not staying in there "UP" location and (lowering) Moving downward onto the road ...

that would be very dangerous....

 

I am not a hydraulic expert in anyway, but would the leak down of the gear be an indication of air or moisture (water) in the system somewhere? I agree 100% that this is very dangerous and could be life threatening.

 

Yes, the legs are leaking down and it is very scary going down the road. This is a known problem with DRV owners. Some have been fixed by LIPPERT, in and out of warranty, now all of a sudden they are refusing to fix the problem. It is a safety issue and someone needs to step up.

There are many other LIPPERT levelers on RV rigs across the country. If they are having similar problems they need to go to the NHTSA website and report their problem. If we RV'ers stick together then things will get done.

Lippert = crap. No news there. I've had to weld/gusset their flimsy frames after finding cracks around the spring hangers. They basically own the industry, and they're killing it with their ****-poor engineering and QC.

 

could you use some tie downs as a temp measure for safety?


I agree, these safety issues should be reported.
