96 f350 cab and chassis with a regular bed, question.
I bought a 96 f350 4x4 7.3 5 speed for a good deal. It is a cab and chassis with a flat bed though. I want to convert it to a single wheel with a regular bed. I know the frame is narrower and the bed won’t directly bolt on. But my concern is the axle being 4” further back than a regular truck.
To get past this this since I want to lift it 4” anyway. Could I get custom leaf springs made with an offset center pin to move the axle a couple inches forward to fit the wheel wells? Does anyone see a problem with this? Keep in mind I don’t plan to haul anything heavy, if at all. We do this in jeeps all the time to gain wheelbase and they go through more suspension abuse than this truck would ever go through.
I know about the axle differences and that I’d need a shorter drive shaft and brake lines. Just wanted to make sure it isn’t going to affect anything or be dangerous, I don’t see that it would be. But that’s why I’m asking your guys opinions.
