97 mountaineer 5.0 into a 92 f 150

I have 92 f150 4x4 with a 5.0 in it number2 cylinder is completely dead absolutely no compression. My brother just rolled his 97 mountaineer 5.0 awd. What all would i have swap to switch motors? I know I can't be that lucky to have it just bolt up and run.

Better go pick up a lotto ticket.

It's almost a direct bolt-in. The Explorer/Mountaineer 5.0 is OBD2 and has a totally different intake on it and EDIS igition, but if you strip it to the bare longblock and put the intake, distributor, wiring and accessories from your pickup on it it will bolt right in and run.

So no changing of heads, cam or anything internal nice. I can handle that I was figuring on alot more than that is usually the way my luck runs.

No, you just have to route the plug wires for the HO firing order not the firing order your original motor had.

Ok I'll make sure to make a note of that under the hood as well as in my book to stay with the ho firing order. I've seen that posted somewhere on here I'll look unless you know it off the top of your head and would be so kind as to share it. I also wanted to thank you for your knowledge and advice that you've already shared. It is appreciated.

Hello, could I jump in on this thread? I am looking at a 96 Mountaineer and would consider doing the same thing for my sons 94 5.0 5speed Bronco. I would do exactly the same thing (strip it down to a long block) but I have to consider the speed density computer system and ? does the 96 have the GT40 heads or the GT40P heads, and would the exhaust manifolds fit these heads? I will start a new thread to answer any of the major questions.

Thanks
Rick

'96 will have GT40 heads so any standard manifold or header will fit but the motor will come with a set too.
