Mileage on original brakes?

Hello all, new here after a decade+ on the 97-03 forum, finally donated my 2000 2WD XLT (w/230K miles), and purchased a CPO 2015 4WD XLT Sport back in June (w/22K miles).

Love the truck, and all the modern features/options, my initial question is what sort of mileage have you experienced on the original brake pads? Currently at 31K, and beginning to notice slight squeal upon reversing from driveway. Plan to have inspection in this next week.

Thanks for any insight, Will G.

It varies widely!

I had it looked at when I was at 6,000 miles and I'm at 90%. My 2012 had 39,000 miles with a good 50% left. I very rarely brake, I always downshift. And when I approach an intersection, i try to avoid hitting my brakes by slowing down whenever I see red. Of course, not when the cars are behind me, I'm not a douche bag who drives slowly to aggravate others.

The definitive answer is - it depends! On a truck that sees fairly little towing or running with maximum load in the bed, 60K is not unheard of. Tow a heavy trailer on urban streets (think landscaping services) and that might be closer to 35K.

You bought it used, so there's no way to tell how the previous owner used it. At 25,000 miles, my brakes are still like new. I'm very particular about braking though. I usually get 75K plus miles out of a set of brakes.

Appreciate replies, I figured 30K+ would be on the low end of any range. With my business, I do often drive throughout the coastal mountain ranges here in northern California, lots of relatively steep & winding roads, usually with an average load of gear in the bed as well. Curious to what they'll find with inspection.

I usually trade one in before it needs brakes. My 03 Hondas are still original. My 13 F-150 almost 50k on it and over 50% left. Never put brakes on our 04 F-250 and it was sold at 80k miles.

My 2011 is nearing 80K on the OE brakes and as of July, I was still at 6/32's of meat left. I don't tow anything or haul much and half of my driving is freeway / city.

I've never been so pleased with a set of Ford OE brakes. The rotors were turned under warranty at 25K and need to be replaced now.

I replaced mine at 60,000 KILOMETERS, granted I tow around 50% through very large hills and they where at 40% worn.

Not sure if you mean they had 40% left or 40% worn (60% left) but either way, I'm just curious as to why you decided to change them. Was there a problem?

I will not be happy with only 30 to 60,000 miles, my 02 Silverado had 125,000 on the back brakes and when I sold it there was 140,000 on the fronts and the dealer claimed they would go another 35,000 miles.

I ended up changing break pads and turning the rotors at 25,000. I am not a particularly hard breaker. I bought good pads and I am now at 52,000 with no signs of wear on the new pads.

I traded a 2014 F-150 Limited that had 78,000 miles on it. the last time I had the tires rotated at 72,000 miles the OEM brake pad still had approximately 1/2 pad remaining.

I have 65K on mine and the brakes are still good. For my driving, I'd be very disappointed if I don't get well over 100k miles.
