Seat for 78-79

Hello everyone!

I am the proud owner of a pile of parts that are from a '78 F100 and a '79 F250 that one day will, hopefully, resemble a truck.

One thing absent from my stockpile is a seat (including brackets). I have tried searching, but can't seem to find a clear answer as to what bench seats, if any, are interchangeable for this truck.

Two options I may have access to are a split-back bench from a '78 Bronco and a bench from a '72 F250. Would either of these work?

Thanks for your help!

Nothing beats a pile of parts and a plan.

So the story is up to a 1996 bench, one piece back (with what ever year has a internal fold down arm rest...80's?) or even a split back folder out of a older SC/newer Ext cab will fit on a 73-79 set of rails.

Look for a 78/79 Bronco front bench, should bolt in. Have seen that a REAR seat from a 01 Super Duty will work.

2005, 2011 seats looks good also.

So when you say up to '96, from what year up to '96?

Well that is a good question....I would guess that the 72 should/might/maybe fit?? I would not imagine the floor pan is that much different.

My next JY lap I need to check out some of the older bumpside trucks up there.

67-72 are interchangeable, I am 51% sure.

Edit: I checked the 67-72 forum. Seems you need to just change the rails to get them to fit.

So to the best of my knowledge: regular cab and crew cab seats up to 96 will interchange, you just bolt the new seat to the old brackets (that you don't have)
Bronco seats and supercab seats are interchangeable with each other, but aren't a direct bolt in to a regular cab.

Just to gather all the input:
- pre '73, maybe.
- '78 Bronco, maybe (same size, maybe a bracket issue?).
- '73-'96, most likely (as long as headrests don't push on the window).

Thanks for your help everyone.

I have a lot of missing small pieces, and this is my first restoration, so I'm sure you'll see my username around the forum.

I put a 73-79 seat in a 65 F100 without changing anything so can't imagine a 72 is any different. I also did the 90's seat in my 79 by changing brackets. I'm not as happy with that one as I thought I would be and plan on getting another bench.

78/79 Bronco BENCH, the buckets seats.. at least on the passenger side have a complex tilt assembly to tilt the complete seat fwd.

78/79 Bronco front bench will be a split folder, like a Super cab front bench.

I've been searching for better part of a year now for an OEM 1992/93 Ford F-series front bench seat gray or red upholstered that folds in the middle (not the 60/40 spilt) to install in my 77 F-150. I like that particular seat.

I’d measure out your mounting bracket spacing in the cab of the truck, then hit a junkyard. You will find what you’re looking for. I’d also imagine the ‘72 would be a pretty close fit, if not dead on.

Just to clarify - "brackets" are referring to the chunk from the 4 bolts through floor to the actual base of the seats. The slide rails are part of the "brackets", and they vary from series to series as the floorpan changed.

From at least the start of the dentsides to the end of the OBS ('96 F150, '97 F250/350), the seats could cross over from the rails up, they had the same bolt pattern and spacing. So if you have slide rails on the Bronco seat, you should be good with it fitting your cab. The seats themselves changed a couple times, I have a late '80's straight bench in one '78, and it is different than the original, the springs and layout underneath are quite different and the back is thinner, so don't figure on using seat springs and parts from one to fix the other.
