FL-1A Filter Now Has Slotted Center Tube Opening Design

The new (Dec 2017) FL-1A oil filter I just purchased at Walmart for my 99 Ranger 4.0L, now has a Slotted, not round hole center tube design. SO, make sure you shine a light in there to make sure those Slots are open.

There have been photos of poorly formed/punched slotted center tube filters, with slots barely, or Not open at all.

Poorly opened slots could cause enough differential pressure for the filter bypass valve to be operating in partial, or complete filter media bypass mode, not a good thing, especially on the longer oci/fci runs of the newer vehicles, so open the box, take the filter out & shine a bright light in there to check those slot openings out Before leaving the store!!!!

The FL-400S filter I purchased back in June 2017 for my 94 Taurus 3.8L also now has the new design slotted center tube. So looks like all oil filters are moving to this opening design & If done Properly it's just fine.
