I guess automatic is better

Been launching my boat in low water conditions and seems like it's easier with my automatic truck than my standard bronco. Seems like the newer automatic transmissions don't pop and start rolling backwards when you're on a hill like you just ripped out the parking pawl. Maybe it's because of the hill assist.
The water gets low around here during the winter and it's a little dicey being backed down the ramp and then
putting the clutch in.....holding the brake..... starting the truck (all the while attempting to remain above the water line) letting out clutch and crawling up the ramp slow enough to maintain traction

I agree, my daily driver is a standard so I know how that goes.
While towing trailers I really like this 6r140. How it holds the brakes for about 3 seconds is really handy when stopped on a hill waiting for traffic to clear to pull onto a road.

I know what you are talking about on the old automatics. The secret to preventing that is a properly adjusted emergency brake. If you apply it good and tight before putting it in park, and remove from park before disengaging it, you will not feel like your ripping the parking pawl out.

This.

I have always done it this way. Never once damaged a transmission.

But I do like the new transmission too.

After recently driving the wife's Durango, I really noticed how much I like the hill assist with my 6r100. We live in a somewhat hilly area with lots of stops on hills. Her car will roll back where my truck just holds its position.

The difference is the gear for the park pawl is much closer, like a ratchet with more teeth.

I found when the Allison and Torqueshift transmissions came out they had much tighter park pawls, no more rolling and feeling like it was going to snap the park pawl anymore.
