99 5.4 intermittent loose power on startup

My 99 is having a problem. When i turn the key to the on position, the dash lights come on, when i turn the key to “start” the lights go out and my truck wont start, some times the starter will click, sometimes it wont do anything, if i turn the key off and back on again the truck will start.

this only happens occasionally, until today it happened the 2 times i started my truck, going too and from work.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Recently experience a similar problem with my F350 SD. Please take a look at my post " No crank, No Start" or search my handle (only one posting); a member suggested to check two fuses for diagnosing my issue. [The end result was a bad ignition switch.]

Also, it helps to offer as much information on your truck (i.e. model, engine, tranny & etc.) because there are many differences between vehicles that the solution could vary just as widely.

Good Luck!

Ditto on the ignition switch. If it were an ignition fuse then this wouldn't be an occasional problem, it would be an always problem.

just had the same problem. I thought it was my key but it was the shift lever not engaging Park correctly. I tightent up the two t-30 screws behind the steering wheel and moved the lever up as much as it would go.

that was it!
