2000 expedition battery drain
#18
Drove it around the block today just to get it out.
half way through the drive strange things happened until I got it back to the house:
ABS light on
Airbag light on
windows would not roll down
blinkers buzzed and were erratic
radio stopped working and no display
climate controls quit working
smelled electronics burning for a short time
Is the GEM toast?

It was actually the wife that was driving, I wasnt in the car and she didnt know where it was coming from.
I'm done with it. Waiting to hear back from a couple wrecking yards. It's going to be out of my driveway before Christmas.

So it helps if you reconnect the alternator after troubleshooting. Strange things happen when the battery drops below 12 volts.
I removed the fuse block and GEM and found some white buildup on one of the connections. I cleaned it off but found no moisture. I'm still not sure what was causing the original battery drain but it seems to have gone away for the time being.
We'll see if we can milk this thing until spring.
