4X4 Swap - 86 Bronco to 87 F150
Just picked up a '87 F150 2WD standard cab long bed with an EFI 302/C6 and 8.8 rear in decent shape for dirt cheap. I have an '86 Bronco parts truck, EFI 302/AOD and 8.8 rear. Probably know where I'm going with this one... Planning on taking the front & rear axle/driveshaft/AOD and transfer case and swapping it into the '87, and finding a rear driveshaft from a 4x4 '87-93 F150 of the same configuration. Are there any snags or other things to watch out for that I'm over looking?

Also, you may need to swap over flex plates and torque converter, I don't think the AOD and C6 use the same ... Change your rear main on the F150 before the trans goes in. Rebuild the AOD.
You might be able to make the existing spring bracket work on the F150 but pay attention to the mounting provided on the front diff/axle. Save your I beams and radius arms, they might be worth holding on to.

The front shock bracket is a bolt on part. Swap the spring bucket and put the quad shocks on the 150 if it doesn’t already have it.

Yeah, was thinking that'd be a nice little upgrade. I'd buy new ones though; my buddy wants the frame off the Bronco after I'm done gutting the carcass.

If you don't want to change the coil buckets you can just leave the bracket for the front shocks on the housing. The rear shock is in the same place as the single shock bucket.
The other thing to consider is 2wd trucks used 2.5" rear leaf springs while the 4x4 used 3" wide. You would need the hangers off the bronco frame to use the 4x4 springs. The 2wd spings may have less arch and if you decide to lift it later you will want the 3" hangers.

Makes sense. I thought of a few more questions... Is the speedometer drive cable gauge end the same on both '86 and '87 clusters? Since the gear for the speedometer moves further back with the addition of the transfer case, I was going to reuse the Bronco cable. Is the transfer case output shaft different from Bronco to F150? Can I change over the gear selector detent in the column of the '87 to the AOD pattern without having to change columns entirely? I also want to keep the sway bar up front, and I'm hoping the bracket and mounting location is the same frame to frame. I know the bracket under the spring on the axle itself is. Trying to make this swap as factory as possible, not only so it all operates correctly but also easier to order replacement parts when things break.

The 2wd and 4x4 speedo cables are the same. The only difference is the gear itself. On one of them the gear is wider (I forget which one). It takes about a minute to change the gears. Just pull the C clip out.
The column shifter detents are the same for both trucks. The C6 truck is: PRND21
The AOD truck: PRND(D)1
Still 5 positions, Just remember 2 will be overdrive and D will be no overdrive

Since everyone likes pics, here a couple of the victim in question... Picked up for $500 bucks on it's way to the scrap yard. Running and driving perfectly fine F150 with almost no rust; guy was sick of paying insurance on a truck he never used. Never ceases to amaze me what people consider junk. Or maybe I'm just a Ford hoarder.

Okay, so now that I've moved and have a garage to work in, I can finally get to work on this. What is the difference between '80-86 4x4 radius arms and '87-96? I can only find listing on the '87+... I thought the frames all had the mounting bracket in the same locations from 80-96, so what changed?
