2006 4.2l motor replacement
Truck is a basic xl single cab 6ft bed 2 wheel work truck. The other night my truck went blap and died doing 75 on the freeway, no warning. Oil drooling out the front of the motor. Oil was coming somewhere near the oil pump, but I knew the pump was fine. Tore into it monday pulling the whole front of the motor apart, once exposed I could see a nice crack in my timing cover right by the oil pump. So I went deeper and low and behold my timing chain snapped! Guess what that means? Bent valves... I've had it with this motor so I'm putting in another 06 4.2 with 45k miles on it simply for ease as I need this to go fairly quick. I can't find anything on the removal process for this motor so any tips would be helpful and much appreciated. All the bolt ons are off and I already went ahead and labeled and unplugged the wiring harness and got it out of the way. I guess all I really need to know is am I ready to unbolt the transmission and motor mounts and pull it out? I'm flying pretty much solo on this mission knowledge wise and I've come as far as I know how and can't seem to find anything on this 4.2 removal!

I have to ask...are you sure the 4.2 is an interference engine?
since you are already down the road quite a ways...
yes you are pretty much ready. you have all the harness removed and accessories removed you are ready to unbolt the tranny from the block and take it away.
just a note of caution...I'd make sure you have a second set of hands with you...since its your first engine pull having a 2nd person there gives you eyes on both sides and some help...and help is ALWAYS nice in pulling an engine.
take it easy...take it slow. spend the 20 or so bucks and get a chilton or haynes...they are worth their weight and space.
Luck to you

Yes it is an interference motor which is why I'm just replacing it. The haynes I have barely talks about the 4.2 seems the v8 was their only worry. I have a buddy who's helping me muscle wise but that's it. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing any steps before I yanked it out and made a problem even bigger.
