I have a 2000 Expedition 4.6 with 113K miles and have an issue with the A4WD/4HI/4LO.
While placing a ladder into the truck the ladder hit the selector and placed the truck into 4LO. I noticed this when I began to drive. The 4LO worked fine, but when I placed the selector to A4WD there is now a consistent clicking noise coming from the front axle. I've never used the 4LO in the 13 years I've own the truck. I'm just not sure what it could be, apparently an issue with the 4LO.
Is there a way to disconnect/disengage the 4LO? Any input is appreciated.

Did you try taking it through the proper procedure to engage and then disengage 4Lo? It might bring it back into reality. Without following the procedure it shouldn’t have done anything, but worth a 5 minute try.

 

Did it return to high range or is it still stuck in low range?

 

Did you try backing up 20-30 feet? If the system has bound up backing up will relieve the binding.
