Electrical issues?

1972 f100 360, starts and runs fine for eight minutes only! Sounds like something failing after heating up. Any ideas?

Points and condenser? Go get them from ford, as the quality is much better then the China garbage.

2X Brian1971f100's comments. Condensers that are going bad overheat and shut down.

I had condenser issues a few years back. Engine ran like crud and I couldn't figure out what the issue was. I finally installed an electronic ignition, and have not had an issue since. Also, coils will fail when they get hot. You might start with those two things.

When was the last time you did or had it tuned up> There old classics need attention about every 12-15000 miles as the points needed resetting or re-placing.

The condensers don't normally fail but one never knows when they will even if made in Mexico at best or us made.

spark Plugs & the wires, dizzy cap, points & condenser should be bought at a Ford Dealer
an not any Chinese or any off shore places.

If you think you'll save money an just go to a auto parts store to buy all you needed parts. Then we here can't help you after that cause of the point & condensers have a high failure rate.

The dizzy vacuum advance should be checked or replaced also when doing a tune-up.

An most shops would do a compression check first!

Thanks for the tips! I also hear that the resistor wire from ignition switch to coil may be failing. At least I now have a direction to go in. I will report back!
