I ordered two filter heads (1"-14) to isntall a dual filter setup on my 6.9. The water separator is long since disconnected so it only currently has the factory 6.9 filter. I have a relatively new high output pump and injectors so want to keep these in good condition.

I'm planning to run FleetGuard FS1001 water separating filter (10 micron) and and Fleetguard FF5320 filter (5 micron), then through the lift pump into the factory 6.9 filter (6 micron). Is there a filter available for the factory 6.9 filter head that is finer than 5 micron? It would make the most sense to go with something finer than 5 micron after the aftermarket filter. I'm aware I can get a 2 micron filter for the 1"-14 filter head (Cat makes one, I'm sure others do as well), but don't want to plug filters excessively early so progressive filtration makes the most sense to me. I plan to mount these together along the frame rail, I'll just make a 90* bracket to bolt to the top of the filter heads and through the frame at whatever location lets me keep them as high as possible. If anyone has done this I would appreciate pictures or a description of mounting.

The 6.9 filter head has a 7/8-14 thread. The filter is fairly short and can't be too much longer, I've been using the WIX 33811 which is 4.332" tall. Anyone know of a 7/8-14 filter under maybe 5" tall that does better than 5 microns?

 

Wix let's you search by size and thread. Not much selection in that thread, you want a large filter for a smaller micron or it'll plug. I'd either delete your 5 micron or change it to 2 micron and delete the 6.9 head.
