This oil change was a PITA....Simple it was not.

I bought a 1991 F-150 a few years ago and the filter was on there about that tight when I did the first oil change on it. It ended up looking just like that when I was done with it. I had to make a couple trips to the parts store and finally found a pair of slip-joint wrench pliers with teeth that work really well. On one of the trips to the store, the guy behind the parts counter helpfully told me that I didn't need to put the filter on quite so tight next time. Thanks buddy.

The free Carfax app is convenient, too with alerts when the service intervals are due next. Also has a record of the work that was done to it with dates/mileage/service location while it was owned by the previous owner. Thanks to it, I know when my ball joints and diff fluid was changed last and what shop did the work. Another piece of reassurance aside from the P.O.'s own records or taking his word for it.

Gotta get up near the filter head or my wrench just crushes the filter
I bought a wrench I think will be better than what I use now at a flea market for a song, but gotta take time to spray it with rubber coating, it slips

Because of clearance I have to put the strap part around the bottom of the filter and slide it up on the filter. Only the thinnest part fits up there.
The sandpaper doesn't survive well, wherever the backing is, it slips- wrench side, or if I put back to back, etc. Maybe my paper is just too old
