1954 f100 3 speed transmission replacement

I want to replace the stock transmission with a more modern 3 speed with syncros on all gears. The engine is a 239 v8. What are my alternatives that will bolt up without modifications? Could I use a 68 mustang 3 speed? Thanks for your help!

If you are going to that much trouble why not replace your trans with an even better transmission like a 5 speed? There is lots of guys on here that have installed T5s.

It has a 239 v8 in it. That's the point, I don't want to a big mod. I want to just bolt on a newer 3 speed with syncros. I just had power steering put in and had to change to a floor shifter. I don't know what happened but the transmission grinds going into 2nd gear. Blown syncro?

Probably just a worn blocking ring, most of the better suppliers have them in stock. I'd rebuild it, probably less than $100 in parts. Not that difficult, plenty of info available. Still won't have syncro 1st gear but that's not much of a problem with old engines and low speed rear end ratios. A better alternative is finding an overdrive trans and hooking it up correctly, one of those will change your life. :-)

No later model trans will bolt up to the Y block without an adapter to my knowledge.
I have an extra 54-55 3 speed if you need one. Condition unknown.

Ford type 3.03 3 speed manual all syncromesh trans introduced in 1963:

F100/250 223/292; Galaxie 223/289/352/390; Fairlane/Meteor 260/289.

Edit: 289 replaced 292 in 1963 Galaxie.

These same engines were used in all these 1964's except the Meteor ('rebadged' Fairlane) that was discontinued.

The 1949/62 3 speed manual (no syncro 1st gear) has two 2nd/3rd syncro blocker rings.

if it was ok with the column shift I'd guess the floor shift rods are adjusted incorrectly

I think the first few years of the "303" all synchro 3 speed might have the old square trans to bell pattern. I am not sure that is the same pattern you have now. Bell depth is another consideration. But wait, there is another, more expensive solution:

Bellhousing, QuickTime, Flat head to Ford Toploader 4 speed

The 303 3 speed in the correct model will bolt right up where the top loader 4 speed would go.

Serving suggestion, but another imo better one was already made: T5

Are you saying the 63 303 transmission will fit my 239 v8 with no modifications?

Another consideration is the clutch cross shaft mounting point, you wont find that on the later 3 speeds.

"I'm sorry, I must be an idiot." As my old boss used to say. But I digress.

Bellhousing, QuickTime, Y block to toploader, RM-8056

Ford changed the trans to bell pattern from square to rectangular ("Butterfly") in 1965, Thus, the early 303s had the square pattern. I do not know the pattern of the trans in question. If it is the square pattern, it will bolt up. If the input is too long, a spacer can be fab'd.

Early, SB six I think:

Maybe what OP has:
