4wd to 2wd

my son and i are going to build his first truck. i have two 73-79 4x4's one f100 with the 300 6 and np435, one f150 with a 400 np435, and a 79 f250 2wd 460 c6. he wants a 2wd swb with the 460 and c6 maybe a gear vendors od (if i can sell some things to afford it). question is converting a 4x4 frame to 2wd anyone done it? could i do the crown vic swap on the 4x4 frame? i know this seems backwards from what others do but it is what he wants, and we have other 4x4's for him to use if he wants. have been looking for a 2wd swb frame for months but having a hard time finding it.

Cheaper, quicker and easier to just locate the 4WD frame with complete running gears (both axles, xfer case and d/s) and do a body swap.

2wd to 4wd talk. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post14696887

Use the 79 F250 frame and shorten it to what you need. The big issue with a 4x4 frame is where the front cross member is placed. It's set farther back than a 2wd is.

Sell one 4wd and buy what you want. It'll probably net you some money to do the 460 conversion.

No F100 4WD's were assembled after 1976. No such thing as a 400M, it's just plain 'ol 400.

What condition are all your truck in? If they are just average then I'd start selling stuff till you can buy the truck you want and the parts you need to make it a 460/C6.

That said cutting the frame of the 2wd to make it a short bed isn't all that hard if the cab and bed you have is in great shape.

For the gear venders od you might want to look into the E4OD swap. Cost of trans and controller are similar to the gear venders but nets you od and a lock up torque converter at the cost of gear splitting on the lower gears.

Where are you located......there are two 73-79 pickups in a pic-n-pull in Conway AR, I know one is short. They are closing the yard after the first of the year and have prices reduced now. They frames and running gears are there but not much else. Both 2wd

jaleus, i live in a small town close to shreveport, louisiana. conway would be about 3.5 hours for me but that would be doable for a good frame at a Great price. can you get me the name of the yard they are in so i can call? i have enough stuff to put together one very nice truck as far as the clip, cab, doors, and bed. the next best parts will go on the 4x4 with the 6cyl. the rest won't be much good. i would love to find a good frame would save a lot of fustration,

thanks for the clarification on the "M". the years should have read 73-79. the truck with the 300 is a 75. i don't type well and proof read worse. so do you know what the diff. between the frames are?
