If you think it is an IC issue you can find one on eBay that is close to your mileage and swap it for yours. When I swapped mine they were running right around $200 for an XLT cluster.

The cluster comes out real easy. When you get it out you will see what I am talking about. NO, you don't run any screws through the circuit board. Yes, it is a solder joint issue. But you cant get to the circuit board unless you remove the gauge needles which I wasn't about to do.
Its not as simple as removing one cluster and replacing it with another. The cluster has the PATS code info in it and another cluster has to be programmed to talk to your PCM let alone the mileage reading which is stored in the cluster.
Oh, and the back of a 10 cluster is the same as an 11.

I've seen error messages similar to this associated with EPAS faults too...and usually soon thereafter the EPAS begins to fail. It's about a $2,000 total repair at a dealership.

I found new instrument clusters on line; some OEM suppliers could not set mileage on them, but a Ford dealership out of Florida would, so I go the part from him. It arrived Friday, I put it in Saturday. We're improved, but not fully fixed. I'm no longer getting the 'Service AdvanceTrac' alarm, but I am still getting 'Check Brake System'. Initially, it was coming on for just a block or two and going off, but last night and on the way to work today, it was pretty persistent. Guess I'll head back to my mechanic friend and see if any codes are getting generated. WXboy, I'll have to look up EPAS faults. That's a new one on me.

Looked up EPAS faults, don't think that applies here, thankfully - I've not gotten any 'Power Steering Assist Fault' warnings, and no noises from under the hood. Just that cursed dinging alarm in the dashboard.

I did the correct fix by removing the cluster and disassembling it down to the circuit board. The main connector solder joints were minimal to non existent. I touched each joint with a solder iron and some solder and reassembled the cluster. Problem solved. The needles were a bit tricky to remove, but not bad once I figured it out.
Ford must have had a bad batch of boards for this to be an issue.
Hope this helps.

That sounds like what I'm going to have to do. The damned 'Check Brake System' alarm is driving me nuts. I'm ready to get rid of the truck over it. Oh, well. Next Saturday's project, I guess. Thanks for the input!

The back of the clusters may be the same but they aren't compatible. Programming is easily done using Forscan and uploading your as built. Mileage is either corrected by a third party or find an IC that was close to the same mileage. OP, if you have to replace the IC, read up on Forscan and shop ebay for a cluster that has near the same mileage as you have.

No one said anything about clusters being interchangeable between years. I would think someone looking for a cluster would look for one the same year as their truck. Forscan may work but looking for a cluster with "close to the same mileage" is cheesy at best.
There are two ways to fix it, the right way or Olytlr's way. Your choice.

His problem isn't the IC. He changed it out already. Option 1 is you can have a company program the mileage it option 2 is you find a cluster that is close to your mileage (over). Nothing cheesy about it and legal in most if not all states.

Did yalls ever when taking off go to about 25 mph and stay there and wouldn’t speed up/switch to 2nd gear. Mine just started today.

< meaningless dash pic' with brake warnings >
  1. Irrelevant posting to a 1½+ year old thread.
