4x4 not working!!!

4x4 not working!!!
I have a 2010 F-150 Lariat and my 4wd isn't working. When i put it into 4wd it says its in and no dash lights are on but when I step on gas it grinds and when i turn it makes a cracking noise... It will still go forward but only the back two wheels are spinning... Help??

I thought of that also, but since he said he's not getting dash lights I figured the shift motor wasn't kick over enough to trip the internal switches.

Here was my take-away; "when I put it into 4wd it says it's in"
From that I thought, he was getting the 4H (or 4L) indicator.
"no dash light are on"
From that I was thinking no trouble lights like "engine" or "wrench".
I could be entirely off in my thinking, it's happened before
but this was my best stab at interpreting the question.

, what I found was the IWE actually stuck in the unlocked position and wouldnt engage......no noises, grinding anything. The OP is getting sounds so doubt a stuck one is the problem, but Id start in the front. In my experience if its a T-case problem the 4x4 light will flash and you should be able to hear the case shift....really hear it go into 4lo.
