400 Ford turbo build.

Engine is 1973 car 400. Have a pile of parts I found over a few years of ebay searching. Pistons are 8.2/8.4 to 1 forged trw old stock L2414F. Intake is single plane holley. Gonna port and polish the 73 heads and looking at arp rod bolts polished rods, studs for two bolt main. Using either FItech, holley sniper and a Gt45 or Borg Warner turbo. Single turbo and a air to air intercooler. Cam lifters and other engine parts are not purchased but looking forward to moving forward with this build.

I know turbos increase combustion turbulence which can help with knock while under boost but with a detonation prone engine and open chamber heads will this be asking for trouble or is pressure charged intake air that good at knock prevention?

Well having an engine tuned properly is the goal. Having good timing and proper fuel are my main concerns at the moment. I will probably have a custom cam ground for a turbo. Modern cam grinds for turbos can help with this somewhat. I am also toying with the idea of aluminum heads. I have some hurdles as most do with this sort of build and will take it slow till I can progress. Low compression and a good combustion chamber should solve any non tuning related issues.

I can put up some pictures in the near future, but I need a better image host than photobucket at the moment. All my pictures are being held ransom as some already know. I have not gone through and organized anything since I moved back to Montana from Texas. Gonna build log headers most likely.
