302 to 460 swap

302 to 460 swap
I have a 93 f150 efi with a 302 engine. I have the chance to buy a 94 f250 efi with a stock 460 in it. Nothing is wrong with the engine or transmission, I can probably get the truck for 500$. My 302 needs replacing so I'm thinking about buying this truck and swapping the motors. How much trouble would it be? I won't have to buy a tranny cause I can just use the one out of the f250. Most everything I'm going to need like brackets, headers etc... I can just pull off the f250 right?

Welcome to FTE.
Your '93 F150 needs a motor, anything else?
The '94 F250, what kind of shape is that in? Rusted out thrashed body with good running motor? Or is it in about the same condition as your F150?
See where I'm going here? That swap is going to be a lot of work. Some of the things you need, like the harness, may swap over to the F150. The radiator--maybe. Exhaust system? It will be an extensive rebuild to make the 460 work as OEM in the F150.
Anyway, back to those questions.

On my f150 Im running 2.5 inch pipe from the headers back to a Flowmaster super 40. The exhaust on the f250 is stock, the headers are in good shape, the radiator is in good shape also. As for the harness I'm not sure maybe I could swap it to carb and cut out alot of the sensors and wires?
thanks for the reply!

Since i have done this exact swap i will shed some knowledge on what i went through.
If your dead set on putting the 460 in your f150, pull the entire engine/trans combo out along with the complete engine wiring harness, computer, hoses, etc. You do not need the fuse box or dash wiring harness so dont worry about those. The 460 radiator will bolt right in on your f150. Engine mounts, you dont have to buy the fancy expensive ones as you can use the stock 460 mounts. There will be dual studs on the 460 engine mounts and you take a cutoff tool and cut one set off. I cant remember off hand which set needs cut as this was back in 2014 but just measure the mounting hole width on your f150 frame and then measure the width of the 460 engine with the mounts attached to it (or measure the f250 frame after the engine is pulled). Pretty simple actually, but for ease of install, put a tiny tack weld on the studs you cut off since there is a plate between the rubber and stud and it will fall off when you cut the studs your not using (ask me how i know this lol). Headers, I used long tubes meant for a 460 f250 truck. I did have to clearance (maybe a 1/16") off the passenger side for the primary tube to clear the frame or it would rub under hard acceleration. The rest of your exhaust will have to be custom if you want to go from dual to single or true duals. Fuel rails both come out in the same spot for delivery and return so no need to swap those out. Driveshafts, if both trucks are regular cab long beds, you can use your existing one depending on what transmission you have. Might have to swap yokes on both ends with conversion u-joints but they will work. If your f150 is a regular cab shortbed, I used an 05? durango rear shaft and bought conversion jounts to make it work with the yokes from the f150. Just basically grab everything from the f250 as far as accessories and it will all work properly. If you have any questions feel free to ask as i may have forgotten something.
