2001 7.3 Alternator Questions

Hello,

I'm in the process of changing my alternator and I have two problems.

1) The ring that connects to the single wire that bolts to the back of the alternator has rusted off. How can I attach another ring?
2) How do I remove the clip (with two wires) that plug into the alternator? I was expecting to see a tab.

Thanks,

Anthony

There should be a tab, it may be broken off if that's the case give a little WD40 to encourage it to come off, then spray it with electronic connection cleaner. Cut the wire back, put on a new ring, re-install.

Hello,

Where can I purchase the rubber boot that protects the nut (mine has disintegrated)?

I would solder a new terminal instead of just crimp, some flux, solder and a torch will be needed. As for the boot you can try any ogmf the auto parts stores they might have some.

Glad you got it off. I don't remember the cable size, but for some reason 8 or 10 gauge is jumping out at me. Regarding boot just go to NAPA. I removed mine when I ran another cable from Alternator to passengers side battery. I agree with Adam solder the ring on and use shrink wrap.

Hello,

I completed the job, here what I found out. The wire is 6 gauge, I used a lawn mower boot to cover the nut.

Thanks
