Stalling at idle, and idle surging help.
Hi all, I'm new to this section of the forum with my Newley acquired 1986 f250.
She's got a 302 Fuel injected with a 4 speed behind it. The truck runs great however I've noticed that when coming to a stop the idle surges and then it will stall, however when I got to restart it acts as if the battery is dead. I'll wait 5-10 minutes then it fires up and runs great until I come to a stop agin. This is puzzling me any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Sounds like the timing is off if it doesn't want to crank over well when it's hot. Several things go wrong over the years with these old injected setups also.
So first thing I would do is clean off the crankshaft damper and put a white-out mark on the 10 degree BTDC mark. Then start the engine and take out the spout connector, then set the timing to 10 BTDC just like you would a older type engine. Then re-install the spout connector.
Over the years the throttle body gets gummed up along with the IAC(idle air control) valve. You can take these apart and spray them to clean them up.

Find the wires leaving the distributor. Follow them along, you may have to take them out of the loom a certain amount. The spout connector is in one of these distributor wires. Someone may have stuffed it inside the loom.
Some of them are a plug disconnect. Some of them are a jumper type plug.

The acting like the battery is dead when you got to restart might be clue to what is going on. I would check the battery connections/cables that would explain the appearance of a dead battery when trying to restart it would also explain the stalling when coming to stop as the truck would just be running off the alt. When the truck cools off a bit it could be making a more solid connection making the appearance of dead battery go away.
It is just another thing to check and rule out.
