Joining Input Shaft to Pilot Bushing Blues

The tolerances are so tight and the tip of the input shaft makes contact with the pilot bushing a few thou's of an inch before the bearing retainer seats in the bellhousing, so getting that sucker in there has been frustrating me all day.
Any suggestions for those who have overcome this while remaining sane at the same time??? I'd be forever grateful for a solution - or medication suggestion at least. Thanks. Vic

It should hammer in with a socket, or something wide enough to catch only the outside of the bearing shell, used as a drift.

Are you sure they gave you the correct bearing?

it’s a bushing and it’s seated in the second step. Never could find a bearing for that second step. The ID there was not what is
