Eaton 2 speed axle ratios
#16
That’s what is so interesting to me about these axles you found for me Gene. These came from a late ‘30s/early ’40s Ford COE but are way overboard compared to what you’d normally find on a Ford. But the Timken brochure specifically advertises the axle as a Ford modification. The references I’ve found show the rear axle, Dayton hubs, rims, and tires alone weight about 2000 lbs. Then you add those spring packs. The Dayton front adapters weigh 50 lb each, then add rims and tires. Makes for a heavy truck to be pulled down the road by an 85 or 100 hp flathead. Stu

That's why they only went 40mph! The 58s my father in law has used to pull 20k loads with the 292. That spring pack leads me to believe that all the weight would have been on the truck like a grain truck or something; not made to pull anything. I've never really looked that close at the spring pack in the f500s with the 2 speeds. They're packed away now but I'll check the 37s and the 38. I doubt they are anywhere near that big though
