58 Sheetmetal gauge?

I want to pick up some sheetmetal on my way home from work so I can maybe start working on the cab this weekend assuming it will still be raining (otherwise I am back on the roof laying out metal).

What gauge?

I don't know where you will be getting it from but you may no have a choice.
When I could get it thru a body supply store they only had I think it was 20 ga, it was thiner than what I was working on but did the job.
I moved down south and the body supply here can't get sheet metal.
They pointed me to a welder that might be able to get me sheets.
At that point I could see a mark up on the sheet so I am using some from my parts trucks scrapped body.

Just pop into your local Sacramento area hot rod shop and see if they can sell you what you need. Otherwise, ask them where they get the stuff they use and you can buy it direct, so to speak.

The weatherman sez you are going to be working on your roof this weekend.

Not concerned about where to get it. Just wondering what gauge. I'm headed home now and I'll out my welding gauge on it.

We have a welding/fabricating shop here in town that maintains a good supply of about everything metal you can think of.

For some reason 19ga sticks out in my mind for the cab.

My money goes on 18 gauge cold rolled steel (0.048").

IIRC most if not all of the cab is 16 gauge. I think the door skins may be 18 gauge. The bed walls are heavier that 16, I am not certain but I would guess 12.

I used 16 for all my repairs (I didn't have to repair the bed walls), I wouldn't use anything thinner than 18.

I have to take a close look but I think if I use the new cab, I will only need to repair the corners, one step and a small area on the passenger front pan. Much less work than the original cab. Will need to cut holes for the original AM radio but I'll lose the padded dash. Probably better anyway as I can cherry the dash but when I cut and weld fabric, it gets all messed up.

78_f800crewcab4x4, you still looking for a padded dash? If I decide to swap cabs, you get first dibs. What you got to trade?
