Calling all mercury gurus- Dash switch?
Hi everyone,
I’m wondering if anyone would be able to help me out with a problem.
It’s regarding my truck 1949 M-47 Ontario Canada truck.
I have this hole in the dash that looks cut out- see the first picture. I thought this maybe just something the previous owner did but I’ve noticed the same hole on a few different trucks. Looks like a push button in there?
I have found a few examples off kijiji that show a push button. This is not the starter button which you can see on the other side but rather another. I have no idea what it is. Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks again
Zac

I'm not going to be much help on solving your mystery, but I will share my observations and conclusions.
The hole placement is different in all three examples that you have shared. Yours in the first pic is high and to the right towards the speaker grille, the 2nd is basically dead center vertically in the gauge panel and horizontally between it and the speaker grille, and the 3rd appears slightly above center and off to the left. In addition, your hole is rather large, the 2nd looks to be virtually identical to the starter button, and the 3rd appears to be a toggle switch which would be a fairly small hole.
This (plus the fact that none of the Fords ever had a hole there from the factory) all leads me to believe that you've found three separate examples of a previous owner's modifications.
