Anyone Replacing Brake Pads?

I have a 2017 F-350 6.7 Lariat Ultimare 4x4 short box. The brake dust is ridiculous on this truck. Worst I've ever owned. Truck stops fine, just gets filthy quick. So,I'm looking to upgrade the pads to something not as dusty. I'm looking at EBC,Hawk and Power Stop. Any recommendations?

I think I would rather deal with dust over replacing rotors every 30k. If you're not throwing dust but still stopping very well, I suspect your being some harsh on your rotors.

I'd leave them be.

To prevent the dust you'd need to convert to ceramic pads (vs semi-metallic) but would sacrifice stopping power. Google a comparison between the two pad types.

I know what you mean. I have a white truck and there is brake dust on it essentially within an hour of washing it, and I am easy in my brakes.

First 5000 miles on my truck were terrible, recently (1200 more miles) it hasn’t been that bad. I thought if it gets worse I will change them out. My 04 F150 I went from factory brakes at 65000 with over half the pad left to Bendix semi metallic and there was a night and day difference. With my old truck being white I started noticing very small red spots only on the lower side of the truck, on the doors and rear fenders, felt like something either embedded in the paint or like a sap and was hard to get off. Spoke with a friend at a body shop to ask what could be causing this and why it wasn’t on top of the truck and he replied brake dust, gets on the truck and when it rains the metallic dust begins to rust, could cause some clear cote pitting if left long enough. My wife’s Escape she had before was bad on dust as well. I’ve always thought Ford factory pads were dirty. New truck is white as well so I’m keeping a close eye on it.

I bought Hawk LTS brake pads for my '05 Excursion years ago, and I'll probably do likewise for my '17 F250. Good braking with very little dust.

I've had good experiences with EBC and Hawk. Not familiar with Power Stop. The Power Stop pads are half the price of the other two.I only do about 8k mi. a year,so I'm trying to figure if its worth spending the long dollar.

ford make a heavy duty pad for them as well. The trucks come with softer pads from the factory.

The heavier pads have less dust and are designed for heavier braking applications.

I haven't noticed any more dust than normal. I wipe my wheels down with a clean microfiber cloth and the cloth isn't bad at all considering the weight of any empty truck it's stopping. If I take one of my bikes for a 50 mile ride they can turn a white cloth black.

This has been a huge problem for years..... not just with SD but also F150. You can go the F150 forums and read for days about all the brake pad dust complaints. Some switch to some of the brands mentioned above but the most popular from my reading is Wagner Thermoquiet Ceramics.

But, I would not take anyone's word here that brake dust is an issue for Ford trucks. You don't have to. Just start looking at the front wheels on every Ford you see stopped in traffic or the parking lot. The only ones that don't have brown wheels are the ones that have changed pads or recently washed their truck/wheels.

For me... yes they seem to stop well but they do make more of a mess than most. I will probably drive the factory pads til I get tired of cleaning wheels or they need it......... then switch to Wagners.

My 17 250 has less than 400 miles on it and the front wheels are covered in dust. I was Hoping that it was just the new pads breaking in, but maybe it’s the norm!?

I had a 13 150 before this and dust was bad too, but not this bad.

I put Powerstop towing pads on the 150 at 33k miles and the dust was all but gone and the stoping power was increased dramatically.

Im just going to deal with the dust for now and wash the truck more frequently, but when the miles get up there and I feel I’ve gotten my money’s worth out of the factory pads I will put Powerstop pads on this one too.
